Controversy & Yes Bank Scam
Rana Kapoor, the founder of Yes Bank, was taken into custody on Sunday following an extensive 15-hour interrogation. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in connection with a money laundering case. Authorities conducted raids on their intended subjects in Delhi and Mumbai on Saturday.
Rana Kapoor was summoned to the agency’s Ballard Estate office on Saturday afternoon, where he underwent questioning. His statement has been officially documented under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Authorities conducted searches at the residences of Rana Kapoor’s three daughters in both Delhi and Mumbai to gather additional information.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a search at Rana Kapoor’s residence, known as ‘Samudra Mahal,’ located in the Worli area of Mumbai on Friday night. During this operation, the agency also conducted an extensive questioning session with Rana Kapoor and recovered various documents from his residence. Sources have indicated that the ED team also interviewed the three daughters of Rana Kapoor. Notably, one of Rana Kapoor’s daughters holds a directorial position at Duit Urban Ventures Pvt Limited, a company that received 600 crores from DHFL.
The question arises as to whether there exists a connection between the 600 crore transaction and the non-performing assets (NPA) of DHFL. The case against Kapurus is linked to Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL) due to allegations of loans provided by the bank to the company becoming non-performing assets. Officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have stated that their investigation is focusing on a loan of Rs 600 crore extended by DHFL to one of its units.
Following the ED’s actions, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is gearing up to take action against Rana Kapoor in connection with the Yes Bank scam. The CBI is actively preparing to initiate its inquiry, maintaining communication with the finance ministry, RBI, and ED. Additionally, the CBI team held discussions with ED officials on Saturday.
