Before she became a polling consultant, Conway worked as a lawyer for a while. In the mid-1990s, she started her own polling company to help corporate brands understand and reach female audiences. She has collaborated with well-known figures like Newt Gingrich and Dan Quayle.

In 2005, she co-wrote a book with Celinda Lake titled *What Women Really Want: How American Women Are Quietly Erasing Political, Racial, Class, and Religious Lines to Change the Way We Live*.
